i think it's kinda sad that i never have anything to put on here.
the semester is almost over. i just have finals left.
we're almost finished with Christmas shopping. just a couple more people to buy for, i think.
....that's all.

meh
chemistry 2 in summer is over. finally.
on monday i start all the classes for clinical lab sciences. i get to take biochemistry, hematology, pathogenic microbiology, and another one.
maybe soon i'll start posting more interesting things, and more often.

pup
i don't post blogs very often. i guess i'm just not a very interesting person.
update on the biggest loser contest at work: not only did i not win any money, but shakira so doesn't need to watch out. :-( i'm a sad, sad person. 5 people won money and i was #6.
i start chemistry 2 this week. sceery.
i'm doing some research in microbiology. it's pretty interesting. trying to keep one bug from killing another bug. yeah.
we're getting baron a buddy! i can't wait! he'll be here on the 22nd. cute pup. his name is gunner, he's an english setter, and he's very cute.

that's all for now i guess

hola
well, hello there!! i closed my tab that had blogger, so i forgot about my blog. but, you're in luck, because i just remembered it. woo!!
so...what has happened since my last post? i got an A in chemistry! actually, i got an A in all of my classes, giving me a perfect 4.0.
i got accepted into the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program at University of Texas Medical Branch.
i'm taking an online anatomy & physiology class. i have to virtually dissect a cat. poor kitty.
i had my wisdom teeth removed just over a week ago. the stitches are starting to come out and it's gross! i wasn't in any pain for a few days, but when i stopped taking pain meds, i started feeling the pain. it's not so bad though. i think it's nearly over.
it has been over 100 degrees all weekend.
this morning in sunday school, we were talking about relationships and at one point it made me think of a friend i used to have. i wish she was still here. she lives in california now and i really miss her.

trees
this morning before chemistry i overheard a conversation between this lady who really shouldn't be in a chemistry class and some other classmates. they started off talking about global warming and how people are so upset about it and people are freaking out. the lady made a good point about how the earth's environment has been changing since it was created, and it was hotter in the cretaceous than it is now. the earth is constantly changing.
then they started saying that recycling doesn't help, it just costs money. .... okay...
then the lady said they should make plastic bags that decompose in 2-3 years instead of 20-30 years. a guy told her we should just go back to paper. and she said but then you have to cut down trees. the south americans have been cutting down trees and they need to plant new ones where they cut them down.
that's where i wanted to join the conversation.
one thing i learned in biology this semester: south americans have been cutting down trees so they can have cattle farms. the cattle farms have been failing because they can't grow enough grass to feed the cattle. they can't grow grass because when they cut down all the trees, they got rid of all the nutrients. eventually all the deforested areas will turn into deserts.
alas, i did not have my moment of glory, because some people just never shut up long enough to listen to other people. and class was about to start. so i'm telling you!

roar!!
i gotta get a new doctor!! this place used to be so good! they had their own lab there and everything, but once the good doctor left, they got rid of the lab, got all new people (stupid people!), and they suck.
now they deal with a retarded lab that can't do anything right, and the doctors are rude. and everytime i have to go in to get my blood drawn, there is never anyone there to do it!
i'm finding a new doctor. dumb people.

biggest loser
So, people at work have decided to have a biggest loser competition. The goal is to lose weight and decrease your BMI, i guess. There are 5 prizes. The person who loses the biggest percentage of weight will win $500. And the four runners up will win $250. Awesome! .....right?
Well, not really. Sure, there are people at work who can participate, but there are also lots of people at work who are perfectly fine with their weight and bmi. If those people lost weight, it would be bad. So, good for people who can try to lose weight, bad for people who can't because they have absolutely no chance to win any of the prizes.
Competitions at work that have money prizes should be designed so that all employees can participate. You can't have a competition where only part of the employees have a chance to win. You need to find a way to include everyone, or it's not fair! It's good that you're encouraging a healthier lifestyle, but you need to include people who already live healthy lifestyles.
As for me, I'm one of the lucky people who does have a chance to win this competition. So, watch out, Shakira, Danielle is coming! And I'm going to win my $500.

no more paper textbooks
I read an article today about how Rick Perry wants to get rid of paper text books in Texas schools, and replace them with digital books. The reason is because text books get outdated very quickly and they also wrote something about the high school dropout rate.
I agree that text books get outdated very quickly, but there are problems with replacing them with digital books. First of all, kids who don't have computers at home wouldn't be able to study at home, only during class. And then, if these "books" aren't downloaded onto the computer to where you don't have to be online to view them, what about the kids who don't have the internet? How would they access the material to study?
The article mentioned iPads, and other small devices that can have books on them, but if those things are what will have the books, then every student will need one. The only way that can happen is if the school provides them to the students, because every student will not be able to afford an iPad.
If we all decide to do this, and make schools furnish the iPad, computer, or whatever digital device, to the students, what about school districts that don't have very much money. The high school I went to was poor. There was no way it could afford to purchase an iPad for every student. And I don't think it's fair to require children attending public schools to purchase iPads.
Another thing to consider is student learning styles. Students learn in different ways. Some learn just by listening, some have to take notes, some are visual learners. Some students may need to have a paper copy of the material they're learning right in front of them, while others may be perfectly fine just looking off the computer. Personally, I need paper versions. I need to be able to take the book to the table and get away from the computer to study and learn, and I know I'm not the only one like that. There are many, many people who learn that way.
Sure, textbooks need to be updated, but maybe we can find a way to get up-to-date information without requiring children to read and learn off of small handheld devices.

Six Flags: Helping Recreate an Unequal Class Society
If you're one of the few lucky people in this country, you may be able to afford a Flash Pass. The Flash Pass allows you to, simply, cut in front of the poor people; get better treatment because you have the money.
If Six Flags were the Titanic, I would have died last Friday. Locked down in the steerage, the poor people had no chance of getting up top to a life boat (even if they'd had enough). At Six Flags, poor people are left in the long lines, to bake in the hot South Texas sun. People who have enough money to buy Flash Passes (which cost $79.00 per person!!) were permitted to walk straight up to the front of the line and go on the ride whenever they wanted.
I was gonna have a long, angry blog about this, but I don't feel like it. I said what I wanted to say, and that's all.
Stupid.

busy weekend
It was a busy weekend.
I went straight to Odessa after work on Friday to watch my brother's step daughter so he could be in the room with his wife while she was having the baby. I didn't get there in time, so he didn't get to see his son being born. Nice. But, my nephew is here.

Looks just like, and was named after Super Papaw.
We spent the weekend going back and forth from Midland to Odessa. Ate at Shogun, but Bonzai in Abilene is better.
Oh! And then we went to see Alice in Wonderland.
Weird post, but I haven't posted in a while.

General Mills
The first thing to happen today was my box of Honey Nut Cheerios telling me that I'm not a winner. I opened the box, and there, right on the inside it said, "You are not a winner. Usted no es un ganador." Thanks, General Mills, for making me feel sad and useless and like a loser. I ate my cereal anyway because I went to UTPB, and according to Newsweek, graduates of UTPB are "winners."
To prove that I am really a winner, I brushed my teeth, finished getting ready, made the dog go potty, then headed to class. In microbiology lab, we got our fungus extra credit papers back. Going through the pile to find my paper I noticed that every one had a number--the points they got for extra credit. When I got to my paper, there was no number. Nothing. I am not a winner.
I finally proved how awesome I am in microbiology lecture, where we played a Jeopardy-style game for a review for the test we're having on Wednesday. The class divided into 5 teams, and my team had 3 people. Before class was half-way over, my team reached our maximum amount of points, so we had to disintegrate into other teams. And that's how awesome I am. We answered so many questions that we weren't allowed to answer anymore unless we split up and joined a different team.
So I think I can safely say that General Mills can't really say that I'm not a winner. Newsweek and my awesomeness at microbiology says I am awesome. I will continue to eat my Honey Nut Cheerios this week for breakfast though, because it tastes good, and it's all I have.

Blog!
I have set up this blog because there is a scholarship I can win just for keeping a blog! How awesome is that?!?
All I have to do is blog and I can win.
I'll try to make this interesting and hopefully it's not too painful for anyone who ventures to this site.
